Musical Theatre Dublin Adult Programme
Musical Theatre Dublin is a theatre programme in Dublin that debuted in the summer of 2018. We create educational musical theatre experiences for both teens and adults. Musical Theatre Dublin is an immersive education programme; we believe in learning while doing. We offer a year-round program for adults and summer intensive courses for teens, with an emphasis on performance in Broadway and London-style musicals. Each session culminates in a fully rehearsed musical. The course rehearses at Sandymount Community Centre, with performances at the dlr Mill Theatre in Dundrum.
Adults learn all aspects of how a musical show is produced. They will learn music and voice, choreography, and acting techniques, as well as the nuts and bolts of creating a show. Everyone who auditions becomes part of the cast. It is an intensive program that culminates in a performance of a musical. In addition to learning all aspects of putting on a show, students learn confidence, group process, teamwork, independence and interdependence on fellow cast members. Our program teaches truly collaborative theatre-making. There is an emphasis on small group instruction and one-on-one coaching. It is a thoroughly immersive educational experience in theatre-making.
Autumn Session: Elf the Musical
Following the success of our Irish premiere of Dear Evan Hansen, Musical Theatre Dublin is proud to present our Autumn show, Elf the Musical. Based on the beloved holiday film, this musical comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. Based on the cherished 2003 film, Buddy, a young orphan mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list, and his step-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
Rehearsals begin Sept. 11 at the Sandymount Community Centre, and continue Friday evenings from 6-9:30 pm and Sundays from 10-4 pm. The show will be performed November 6 at the dlr Mill Theatre in Dundrum. Everyone ages16 on up is invited to join the fun. No experience necessary; this is an experiential education program; we learn by doing. 13-15 year-olds may join if accompanied by a parent/guardian registrant. Cost is €549. Half price for a second person in a family that registers. Payment plan available.
